REBECCA HAS begun an investigation into the affairs of the Wales Audit Office.

wao_logoThe organisation, which was supposed to be the main financial watchdog of the public sector in Wale, has been engulfed in scandal.

First, the Auditor General Jeremy Colman was sent to gaol for eight months in November 2010 after admitting possessing and making indecent images of children.

Then it emerged that he had also concealed a £700,000 severance package for the chief operating officer Anthony Snow when he left the organisation in September last year.

Finally, four staff members at the WAO wrote anonymously to the WESTERN MAIL last year alleging that the Office had charged public bodies millions of pounds for work which was never carried out.

The full story of the disaster at this flagship public body has never been told.
